Ellie's Weekly Newsletter. 11 February 2014

We enter a week of LOVE with random acts of kindness. Stay alert; I hope the little ones remember their "homework" with random acts! We will be practicing at school!

Friday we will bring our Valentine wishes to share. We still need lots of empty tissue boxes or shoe boxes for this project. Please send them by Wednesday.

I hope you are having fun planning invention models or illustrations! They will be displayed for all to see on Grandparents Day March 12.

About Me

I teach senior kindergarten at Grace each morning and a program for four- and five-year olds in the afternoon.

Early in my career I taught first grade at St. Paul Lutheran School in Melrose Park, Illinois, and later created their program for three- and four-year-olds. I have been employed by District 97 in Oak Park, Illinois, working as a homebound tutor as well as a Title I reading specialist. In my first year of teaching in Wisconsin, I taught "big" kids (fourth-graders).

I attended Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, Illinois (Concordia University Chicago), where I received a bachelor of arts and a masters of arts in education. Additionally, I have taken numerous post graduate classes and am certified in early childhood education. While in college I was active in children's theater and the Concordia Players. I also participated in synchronized swimming. I worked as a lifeguard and swimming teacher while in high school and college. I thank my sixth-grade teacher at Trinity Lutheran School in Davenport, Iowa, for encouraging me to become a Lutheran teacher! I have taken classes toward my doctorate in Early Childhood Education and recently was certified as a SLANT teacher.

I am married and have two grown children. Our daughter is an early childhood special education teacher and lives in Spokane, Washington with her husband and our first grandson (a second grandson is due November 2013). Our son holds a master's degree in architecture (sustainable housing and design); and lives in Phoenix, Arizona with his wife and our first granddaughter (they are expecting an addition to their family in February 2014).
